GROWING UP WITH GRIEF
Conference 14th. July 2011, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield
The keynote speaker will be JULIE STOKES OBE
CONSULTANT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST.
In her keynote presentation Julie will reflect on 18 years of service delivery at Winston’s Wish – taking a realistic view on what we can offer to children and their families – in their homes and at school and other community settings. It will consider the importance of pre bereavement work and the complexity of bringing children together in groups where they share a similar cause of traumatic death.
There will also be an emphasis on understanding the meaning behind resilient stories from adults whose parents died when they were young. Julie will also present some longer term research which has tracked some of the children (now young adults) who she has worked with over the last 25 years in palliative care settings and at Winston’s Wish. In hearing their stories carefully we can begin to shape the kinds of services that will be needed for future generations to build resilience following a parental or sibling death. The role of social networking particularly with teenagers and other virtual on line services will be considered.
